EXPEDITION
2008
DIVE THE “center of diversity” with jack and Karen
March 28 through April 14, 2008

KOMODO DANCER
On Friday March 28, 2008 Jack and Karen will lead a group of 12 intrepid explorers into the Ring Of Fire and the land of dragons. We will embark on our journey from Newark, non-stop via Singapore Airlines to Singapore, and change planes for our final leg to Bali. While in Bali we will spend 3 nights at the extravagant resort of Maya Ubud, a world class Spa and Resort located in Ubud, the cultural and artistic center of Bali. While there we can be pampered with massages to soothe away our jet lag, or take invigorating hikes and bicycle adventures, or even learn how to cook traditional Balinese dishes. Perhaps you would just like to soak in one of the pools while sipping some exotic cocktail, whatever is your pleasure.
Wednesday April 2 we will board the fabulous Komodo Dancer, pride of the Peter Hughes fleet where we will enjoy 11 nights and 9 ½ days of world class diving, the likes of which very few people have had the pleasure of experiencing. This amazing expedition is available at an exceptionally attractive price, probably never to be repeated. If you have ever dreamt of diving the “Center of Diversity” where there exists more sea life than in any other location on the planet, now is the time to join us. Don’t be left out, life is short, eat dessert first!
OUR ADVENTURE BEGINS:
The Maya Ubud resort and spa is set on a hillside garden, stretching over 2500 feet along a peninsula set high above two river valleys. It flows from the hilltop to the riverside hideaway, 100 feet below. It is just minutes by foot from Ubud, with all its cultural and dining attractions. Maya Ubud resort and spa provides a spacious, stylish, luxurious environment in which to enjoy some of life’s better moments.
We will be accommodated in the superior garden villa’s, which stretch along the eastern and western boundaries of the property, all surrounded by vibrant tropical gardens, flowering trees and coconut palms. You can explore the area by foot along the riverside nature walk, or by bicycle through the surrounding countryside. Experience the sights, sounds and scents of ubud at your own speed and under your own power. Golfing and tennis are also available, or you might like to explore the culture of traditional Balinese village life and experience the local dance performances, or learn to paint from local village artists in their studios. Perhaps you would like to learn to prepare traditional Balinese dinners, under the guidance of a master chef, followed by a Balinese luncheon at your leisure. Classes include a complimentary recipe book.
Below the luxurious Maya Ubud
resort and spa, nestles the riverside spa at Maya. Spoil yourself with
treatments that smooth, stimulate and pamper in private treatment pavilions
which provide individual oasis’s in which refreshing and aromatic oils sooth
and relax. Double treatment pavilions allow couples to be together. The spa menu
is expansive and range from 60 minutes to 180 minutes of relaxation. Or you may
prefer to soak in one of the two pools set amidst the forest green, overhanging
the river valley and at the riverside.
Ubud is considered to be the artistic and cultural center of Bali, the home of many famous Balinese artists, museums and galleries. The Maya Ubud resort and spa provides a free shuttle service to the Ubud central market every hour, on the hour.
After three days of decadent luxury, we will be refreshed and relaxed and ready for the expedition that lies ahead.
KOMODO DANCER.
The Komodo Dancer is a traditionally crafted, two masted wooden motor sailor, stretching to an overall length of 125 feet, 30 feet wide and accommodating 16 adventurous divers. Following the standards of the Dancer Fleet, the Komodo Dancer replicates Peter Hughes Diving service, amenities and the highest standards of safety in the industry.
Komodo Dancer will be our luxurious home for 12 glorious days. She has all
the modern conveniences to make our trip a comfortable exciting, and safe
experience. The 11,000 liter water capacity and 6200 liter per day desalinator
will assure us of an ample quantity of fresh safe water. The chef will prepare 3
delicious meals, and numerous snacks daily to test our willpower. All beverages,
including alcohol are included.
Her range of 1100 nautical miles means we can take advantage of the lush virgin
reefs, unavailable to shore based operations. The VHF, SSB, GPS, radar,
satellite phone, and USB radio go a long way in providing a safe and enjoyable
voyage. Three air compressors means fill times are never an issue. Our crew of
14, almost a one to one ratio, will assure a pampered and relaxing experience.
Vibrant local cultures, Komodo Dragons, colorful coral reefs, abundant marine
life coupled with superior accommodations make Indonesia and the Komodo Dancer
your ideal diving adventure.
Being in the land of the fabled Komodo Dragons, it is hoped that we will be able to go ashore at Komodo Island itself and be able to observe this legendary animal in the flesh. We will also attempt (weather and conditions permitting) to visit local villages and experience the cultural activities of the outer islands.
